My little calico cat just turned 18. She’s still healthy and I want her to be happy during the remainder of her life, which probably will not last long.

You might be surprised. It’s not uncommon for a house cat to live past 20. The Guinness Book lists the longest-lived feline as belonging to a man in Austin, TX. That cat passed away at the ripe old age of 38, and his other kitty lived to 34.

My oldest cat turned 19 in April; she’s a Persian-Himalayan mix who is very much The Queen and regards the rest of us as domestic staff. My “younger” cat will be 15 next month and still spends every day outside, except during the winter. She awakened me at 5 am today, because there were birds to hunt in the backyard.
