New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

LOL!

Walgreen’s called last night, and said the steroid was ready, so I’m on my way to pick it up, then go to Wally’s for some yogurt and some rice pudding.

I don’t know how I’m going to handle the different food in AR. My body is so used to not eating big meals, it may rebel. I don’t want to gain back the weight I’ve lost.

Charlie came over yesterday to deliver the monthly calendar with nothing on it, so I invited him in. We talked a little about Chuck, but we mostly talked about Charlie’s friends that passed away within a week of each other last month. He is still in shock and grief from that, so I encouraged him to talk, knowing it’s what he had to do. At the ramada, he mostly just listens to other people, and only opens up when it’s just him and me. (He and I?)

He and I, nominative-case pronouns for your compound subjective complement.

(Every day is a school day here ;-).

I’m going to get dressed in many layers. I have to go to Walmart, too: Kathleen ate all my apples.

See? I knew you could correct my grammar! Thanks!

Back from the errands, and now to go have a breathing treatment.

It was 39 degrees when I left. The little motion sensor light is wonky and so is the stereo in the truck. It actually cycled on when I was driving to Walgreen’s. But as soon as I touched it, it shut off again. *sigh*

I hope one of my nephews can fix it when I get to St. George.

I wouldn’t have mentioned it if you didn’t ask!

Congrats on your success at Walmart. I’ve been sitting around in the sunshine reading. I may not go out today until it’s time to take Elen to Waterfowl Rescue and Sally to church, after 3:00.

Well..

FR is back up after the server fell over.. I had to entertain myself by poking liberals on Facepagething.

In the interim we had snow. It seemed to be falling with intent but in the end it left only about 2.5cm of the stuff. Don't know if it will stick around to join with the stuff supposedly arriving Monday or not. The National Weather forenosticators have a winter storm advisory effective from 4PM Sunday to 10AM Monday posted. They are calling for 3-6 inches of white and it might stick around some since it has been in the low 20's at night and the ground is congealing.

Some are expressing the following opinion of this possibility.

WEll that was a fun night.
An integrated gigabit switch on a cloud server decided not to have the ability to change to standby mode when it goes out of contact with the downstream computers.
Consequently strange drop-out where occurring elsewhere on planet earth.
All eight of the switches had incorrect settings within their configs.
The ability to seamlessly switch just wasn’t.

The settings don’t save when they are supposed too, when save is selected.
“Master system setup” save function has to be used under Maintenance. Save doesn’t mean save anymore.

Defective hardware boxed up and ready to travel back to Hong Kong.
Thank goodness the instruction manual was re-written over here...

The proper stuff, not VCR++.
Must have been painstakingly rewritten.

That was a long dry spell...

And this is an unusually colored kitteh. Floofy and full of squee, nonetheless.

And what will today hold for me? Hmmm...

I hope my server doesn’t fail!

Good morning. Yes, wonky.

Temperature in the 20s. I’ve already been to church to get Pat and James from their overnight with the Boy Scouts. I’ll go to Mass at 1:00, by which time it should be above freezing.

The sunbeam is just hitting Shannon by the downstairs bathroom door.

The temp was 41 last I checked, but the humidity is over 50% so it feels colder.

My stomach was really messed up yesterday. It was a combination of things, but probably the trigger was the early morning text I got from Hockeybughow. He told me his dearly beloved Lingolover would be home the entire time I was there. *sigh* Why in the world she would do that is beyond me. Unless she just wants to make sure I don’t steal something.

I’m nearly done with the packing, and only have clothes to add, blue the nebulizer and meds. My suitcase will be too heavy for me to lift. I’m glad it has wheels!
