Looks to me like the officer engaged from the left side of one pillar away. the killer charged the officer while the officer was switching to the right side of the pillar and caught him looking the wrong way. Shot him in the back.

It may be out of focus but Fox saw fit to leave their graphics up to cover the really important information. I hate having to go through useless graphics to see what’s going on. It happens all the time.
