In the 80’s & 90’s they accepted tens of thousands of Croats, Bosnians, Albanians, Turks, Iraqi’s, and Kurds. The 2000’s brought boat load after boat load of Africans.
Just look at the National Soccer Team. Of the 23 on the roster, probably 8 qualify as “SWISS”.

It has to do with the birth rate which is around 1.4 children per woman. No nation can survive that without immigration, but all of the other northern nations have similar birthrates.
Only half the young men serve in the army now, the other half in the liberal corp, which is effectively a internal peace corp which takes care of old folks, etc. Problem is Swiss unity had a lot to do with every man going though the arm, a shared experience which ensured a certain degree of conformity and unity of worldview. Between that and immigration, a lot of the attitudes that define Swiss traditional “Reichfrei” attitudes are no longer as strong as in the 1970s or even the 1980s.
As far as immigration, to be come a citizen you must get your neighbors to acquiesce after 7 years of living. So if you come and live in a Canton, but do not become part of the people...well bye, bye.
The Balkans populations are entirely urban. They are not allowed to own guns (for the most part), because their lack of short term self-control. Guns are not unregulated in the nation, since December 2012 to keep your sturmgewehr you have to have a weapons pass issued by your canton police, so if you have a DWI or other indications that you are not responsible you will not be able to keep it. Since 2006 you have to pay to keep your assigned rifle, a nominal fee to pay for the deactivation of the automatic firing mechanism.
