I agree. Yes, he did an outstanding job, kept his cool, and avoided a catastrophe. However, the entire episode, from takeoff to the remarkable landing in the river, was only a few minutes in duration. It's tough to see how they can stretch that into a feature length movie.
Maybe he had an on-board romance with a hot stewardess. That could fill up an hour or two at least.
