What it might take to protect the world's biggest naval base from rising seas

When US Secretary of State John Kerry wanted to push his country to take the lead on climate change, it was no accident that he chose to give a speech in Norfolk, Virginia.

Norfolk Naval Station is the biggest naval installation in the world. But, Kerry said last November, “the land it is built on is literally sinking.”

With this happening, can’t help but wonder why he sold his sailboat?

And a priceless quote:

“In 2004, Mr. Nicholson detailed some of his responsibilities to the New York Times, which began its report by noting: “Mr. Kerry is comfortable being catered to.””

It is wise to untie the ships when the water rises.

No, no... that's wrong. They say the land is sinking... so put more ships there, and tie them all tightly to the pylons. That way, they'll hold the land up and keep it from sinking.

Of course if the ships have to go out to sea (perhaps to another country for a gay pride celebration or something important like that) you'll have to tie the land to something else to hold it up til the ships come back.

Is the land sinking or the ocean rising? Inquiring minds and ancient astronaut theorists want to know.

“What it might take to protect the world’s biggest naval base from rising seas”

Perhaps Kerry could suggest that the Navy build floating boats??

Plenty of Room for Arks

Ever hear of floating dry docks, John? Poorest excuse for an officer I've ever seen!

They must have been desperate, commissioning him and his ilk.

Why did they use 1987 as the date limit? Instrumentation has deteriorated in the past 29 years?

Clip the data to achieve desired results, that's not science.

Time somebody beat some sense into you boneheads spouting AGM!

sorry Kerry, land subsidence is not climate change!!

as for the seas, we were told that they stopped rising when Obozo was elected

in any case, “climate change” is not raising sea levels... there is a tiny steady increase that has been going on for millenia, and that will be unaffected by any delusional plans that the CCWs* concoct for us.

Not before a decade-long study concluded at a cost of $229 MM. No way. Can’t be too careful, ya know.

6’ sea level rise in 85 years. That lie is not quite as bad as Hanson’s prediction of 10’ in 50 years.

Just so people no, current sea level rise is about 0.10-inch per year. 85 years of that would be a seal level rise of 8.5 inches or 3/4ths of a foot. Around 10 times less than this article states.

Put another way, that 6-foot sea level rise will take 720-750 years, not 85.

All the Green Nazis can do is lie because Science is not on their side.

They should, he keeps them in another state to beat the Commonwealth's taxes. John Kerry is the quintessential quiche eating douchebag..

Notice how they worry about an 8.5” possible rise in sea levels over 750 years but they have no problem leaving our children and grandchildren a $20 trillion debt.

Missing from article: any evidence of or data on an actual sea level rise at the base.

I’d wager that there’s been no measured sea level rise at all.
