I’m a confused American. I though Ireland already was a part of the UK. I do recall Scotland’s quest to seperate themselves from the UK last year. They will keep trying.

Most of Ireland is separate from the UK. A few of the northern, more heavily Protestant counties of Ireland stayed in the UK when the rest of Ireland became "a nation once again."

The Irish are a bunch of pathetic weenies for the most part, so it's doubtful that they'd have the gumption to leave the EU. It's even less likely that they'd want to rejoin the UK after being treated like crap by the British government for hundreds of years.

The Irish Republic is not part of UK. The Irish probably are unlikely to easily forget being considered barbarians by the English for hundreds of years.

Based on my few conversations, I would say that the person on the street or running the shop is not particularly happy to be in the EU. They are economically weak. The question they might want to consider is whether they would be better off in the UK. History suggests that neither option is very good.
