CBS 'Star Trek' Series Will Embrace Progressiveness

One thing Star Trek always does well is push beyond social boundaries, often featuring progressive storylines that question controversial issues of the time.

The new Star Trek series on CBS will also feature progressive characters and stories, maintaining the tradition of going "where no one has gone before."

When asked about those kinds of story lines, showrunner Bryan Fuller confirmed that the new series plans on going back to Star Trek's roots.

"I think the progressive audience that loves Star Trek will be happy that we're continuing that tradition," Fuller said to Collider.

Progressives are fascistic to the core. Read Solzhenitzen or Hayek understand their totalitarian mind-set.

The TV series Andromeda based on concepts from Gene Roddenberry, produced by his wife was a whole different departure from the Star Trek world - a small motley crew trying to relight liberty across a despotic galaxy. Kevin Sorbo as the lead character - and in light of the sort of productions he's done in recent years and going public with his political views, I now see why he took the part.

i always thought it was silly how in TNG they had progressed beyond the need for money, but whenever they were playing poker, the table was covered with chips. what exactly did the chips represent, if not money? and what’s the point of playing poker for meaningless chips that have no value anyway?

i thought the prequel Enterprise was the most interesting of the lot. DS9 had too much political intrigue and wooden acting. TOS was too hokey. TNG has it’s moments. only Enterprise had a fresh take on the “universe”.

The Captain will be an HIV Positive Transexual Transpecies Vulcan Male that think’s he’s an Andorian female, Ru Paulvok. The name of the ship will be the USS Leningrad. Worf will make a cameo, he’s currently in relationship with a Tribble. Instead of phasers the ship will fire daisy petals, flower power. Warp drive is bad for the environment so the ship will mostly putter around our own solar system. It would study black holes, but that would be racist. And it will still be better than most of Voyager and the first 2 seasons of Enterprise, maybe.

"I think the most right-wing sci-fi show in recent years was Space Above and Beyond."

I always thought that Babylon 5 was a very politically and socially conservative sci-fi show ...

Another incarnation to ignore. The original series made you think, whether you agreed with the characters or not. TNG had a few moments, but basically played the corporate series game and lost me maybe half way through its run. I never bothered to watch DS9etc. Won’t bother with this “progressive” drivel. Anyone else notice so-called “progressives” keep circling around through the same old failed ideas?

The original “Star Trek” series was extremely pro-American witness the episode “The Omega Glory”, about the American flag and the words to the Declaration of Independence, versus the Red Chinese.

It promoted traditional American ideals about fairness, against discrimination, standing up to bullies and tyrants, the quest for knowledge, the concept of peacefully exploring space, having fun (Shore Leave), team-work, and sacrifice to save others.

Now the Warp-Drive energy trail of the Enterprise will be rainbowed.

And Mr. Spock will be saying, “Live weird and mooch”.

To #6. B.B. King wrote a theme song for this episode of “Deep Space 9”. It was called “The Trill Is Gone”.

I have a TV. I love it! But I only watch American Pickers and shows that build cars and bikes. Haven’t watched a network show or news in years! You’re missing some good stuff!

I can imagine the "progressive" thinking...

In the original Star Trek, the Prime Directive meant that they always left the people they visited to continue to live in their backwards poverty and squalor.

The new progressive Star Trek will be about "replicators for everyone!" The premise will be to explore new worlds, make them aware of what they're missing, and modernize everyone with technology so they can all be free to be artists, writers, photographers, musicians, or whatever.

Nope. Haven’t had a TV in the house for more than 30 years. Don’t miss it. And every time I see TV, such as while waiting in a doctor’s office, I cringe at the smarminess and stupidity. Can’t imagine the loss of my time watching that stuff.

This is hilarious. Let’s review “progressive Star Trek” since the original crew :

1. The Next Generation. The first two seasons were replete with liberal nonsense. It was quite horrible. Season 2 was beyond pathetic. They had to switch gears in Season 3 to prevent cancelation in my opinion. They dropped a lot of the liberal nonsense for three seasons and the show took off.

2. Voyager was beyond PC liberal trash from the getgo. How did the brilliant producers fix that problem and avoid cancellation seeing that people were tuning out? A D-cup former Borg in a body suit! :-). While still liberal even after the appearance of Seven of Nine, the show got a bit gritty and a bit better. While I find the show a bore overall, any episode that centers on Seven of Nine is a good one.

3. Enterprise. I find it a shame that this show was killed off. Here you had a crew completely new to space travel. The characters were interesting. The Vulcan science officer put the “cans” in Vulcans. They started out all touchy-feely and people quit watching in droves. Once they ditched most of the PC crap and made it more like old Trek, it avoided cancelation and got an additional season.

4. Deep Space Nine. I never watched it though I have nothing but admiration for Benjamin Cisco since he hated Jean-Luc Picard.

So, in 3 of 4 instances, Star Trek was terrible when it was loaded with PC liberal progressive garbage week in and week out. They ditch that crap and the show gets better. I kind of suspect this new Trek will start out much like STTNG started ... Terrible. If they wise up and ditch the progressive crap, it might get interesting. CBS is using this to hook viewers onto their streaming service, so they might want to lay off the PC crap if they want the show to appeal to a broad audience.
