My family and I landed in KC AFTER the airport had closed. The whole place was deserted. Plus we had already been traveling for 36 straight hours. Plus we all had caught the flu. Plus we had a 15 month old baby with us.
My clearest memory was Mrs lafroste walking through the empty terminal loudly swearing like a sailor. I didn't even know she knew those words. Just wow.
Great story. Lol!
I had a similar problem on a flight from KC to OKC... I had to work, and after a long day at work, I needed to head right over to the airport, the flight was scheduled to leave at 6:30.
Due to weather on the east coast, we were told that the earliest the plane would be available was 9:30. I was a mess, so I thought it would be a good idea to drive home, shower, change, and come back to the airport in time to board the plane. A 45 minute drive each way.
When I got back to the airport, I learned that the flight had been delayed yet again, and the plane finally boarded just before midnight. I could have driven straight to OKC from my home in about 5 hours.
When I got to OKC, my bag didn’t make the flight, but there was nothing I could do because everything was closed. There was nobody there to report the missing bag, other than the baggage handlers. I was told I’d have to come back the next morning to report it.
The car rental desk was also closed, so I had to take a cab to the hotel for the night, then take a cab back to report the lost bag & rent a car.
From then on, I just drove to OKC.
