So will running Avast on an Android tablet help?

A friend of mine installed it on his phone and then he said he had to uninstall it after finding out that it eats up lot of battery power. Is it true?

I suppose you need some protection but I don't know what is best for a mobile device. Maybe somebody else can chime in and enlighten us.
