My son is off to Basic Training

Just a bittersweet vanity thread announcing that my 18-year-old son left today for Air Force Basic Training. This is a boy -- a man now -- who has gone through a lot in his short life. A few years ago, he turned it around and started on a rigorous road of introspection and self-improvement. And it worked.
This is finishing school for him. He has been training to be an Air Force Combat Controller for the last 18 months.
Today, he stopped being ours and became the property of this country. He will do it proud.

Good for him, and good for you. Nice to see you didn't nurture a little snowflake. It really takes a
man to volunteer his entire existence in this day and age. You have every right to puff up your chest, my friend. I tried to go in the Air Force, but they discovered that I was partially colorblind, which kept me out of all the cool jobs, like flight training, electronics, and missiles. So, I went in the Army, where everything is (was, no fashion accessory digital this and that back then) dull green. They put me on a 155mm Howitzer and told me to go blow shit up. LOLOL

45 years ago today I was in day 5 of Basic and Lackland, AFB TX.
Retired from Lockheed now.
USAF and GI Bill set me on a great path.

Just Kidding - All the best to Sonny. He just needs to keep him mouth shut, do as he’s told, learn all they have to teach him and he’ll be well on his way!
