A British 19 year old, driving his own bought and paid for BMW 328i, with his British driver’s license, from New York to California, and then after a pause, to Las Vegas.
That information, in itself, screams that he had funding from somewhere. How did he get the necessary car insurance, with a Brit license? How did he get the money to BUY the BMW.
A 19 year old Brit, unleashed on the Interstate System, never exposed to ‘the highway mannerisms’ that we take for granted, in a car with more than four cylinders and a name other than Subaru (I’ll explain), would be equal to an American teenager, just past the learner’s permit age, being bought a fully-charge ‘Vette and also unleashed on the Interstate System.
I have driven across country from CT to CA, taking the NY highways, to travel down Canada’s Highways, to enter back into the U.S. at the Windsor, Canada/Detroit, MI connection, in a Subaru, and made a return trip in an early 1980’s neutered Mustang, without the detour through Canada.
The gas stations, the necessary stops for food and rest, create the possibility of the motor inn/hotelier asking for the driver’s license as part of the registration. No questions were noted, or raised to any authorities because of the origin of the license.
lastly, the fact of his hatching the plot, is on the indictment charge paper.
