A new study claims that sticker shock could cause hundreds of thousands of loyal U.S.-based Netflix customers to cancel their subscriptions to the popular streaming content provider.
In January 2014, a high-definition Netflix subscription cost customers $7.99 per month. By May of that year, Netflix had already began raising its prices, first to $8.99, and then, five months later, to $9.99 for all-new subscribers. Pre-existing users were grandfathered in to their original $7.99 plan, with the promise that their service price would never change. That promise was apparently broken in April when the company announced in a letter to investors that it would phase out this grandfathering gradually over the remainder of 2016, with our longest tenured members getting the longest benefit.

How is downloading TV shows theft?
I cancelled when they stopped shipping out the DVD’s along with streaming.
Even if Netflix raises its price, it’s still an excellent deal.
Try watching peeky blinders. The best series on Netflix in my opinion. You may need to use closed captioning to pick up some of the dialogue with all of the heavy accents, but it’s well worth it.
What I'd like to find is a cheaper computer option. The cost of basic cable went up when I cancelled cable TV!
Netflix, just for Trailer park boys.
He decided that any contract of that length could not be customer friendly so he dropped them.
That’s ridiculous and shows you are out of touch with reality. Netflix has 86 million subscribers. That’s m as in million and is obviously wildly popular. They have nearly 80,000 titles to choose from and if you can’t find one that is on you. They produce their own because they are overflowing with cash. Netflix’ fee is crazy cheap for what you get. Netflix is one of the few bargains left. For mere pocket change, you have tens of thousands of titles, docs, tv shows and on and on and on. Foyle’s War itself is worth the price.
I like the obscure ones too, especially British movies and series. But seems I’ve watched them all several times and no more selections available. Right now I’m on my third time to watch “The Buccaneers” and next will be “North and South” for the fourth time. I do wish they would update the streaming. It must be their design to get customers upset and thus add on the DVD plan, for extra charge, of course.
I will say Netflix does have a good selection of WWII movies, both American and foreign. So overall, it’s worth the ten dollars monthly fee.
Little known fact: Watching streaming movies put out on the web by anyone is completely legal. There is a program you can put on your computer and hook up to your tv called “Kodi” that is an interface for streaming. just about any tv show or movie you can think of has somebody streaming it somewhere and kodi brings it in one interface. free. completely free.
I agree, Foyle’s War is excellent.
I have Netflix and have seen many shows I liked but...... I am running out of shows to watch. They may have 80,000 shows but those are mostly grade Z.
I like older tv shows from the 50’s onwards.
Netflix could also do with a redesign. I spent many of frustrating times trying to locate the shows I subscribe to under My List. They seem to hide it so you have to scroll thru endless shows you don’t want to watch. I went to their website and setup My List just so I would not have to play hide and seek but they still hide My List.
Also if they go beyond $10/month they will lose a lot of of customers. They need much more content. I can always watch these shows at the link as they are more entertaining then most! http://www.whats-on-netflix.co...
I have an over the air tv antenna that brings in many stations. see what is in your area http://www.tvguide.com/listings
I have a ROKU box and have dozens of ‘channels’ with many movie and tv show selections for free. I also subscribe to Sling tv and for $25/month I get most of the cable channels worth watching along with 4 EPIX movie channels and TCM classic movies. I pay less then half of what I did with Time Warner cable tv and I will not let the price go back up. I can always cancel Sling as I can find most of the content elsewhere. I use it mainly for convenience and that is what Netflix needs to do. Make it convenient to locate the shows you want.
I have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Acorn TV (all British shows). They all have pros and cons. I’ve had Netflix the longest. They have many good documentaries.
80K titles? You must be including their DVD rental service too. That’s more $$$. Wildy popular? Cheap is why.

I am so looking forward to November—the contract that I have with Directv ends.
Another great source of free content is PlutoTV, with its dozens of channels, which has clients for every streaming platform imaginable, including PC via the interwebs
thanks very much! I just recently unplugged from cable, have Amazon Prime.
I am looking for options to stream BTN, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU come August. Any pointers you could give would be *most appreciated*.
Also, I miss Music Choice and JTV, which I had with Commiecast.
I do well with Netflix and Plex. I recently inadvertently signed to Amazon Prime and it seems equal to or better than Netflix. With roku and Plex I could make do.
However...... the big sticking point is Fox news. I tried a streaming channel but it was extremely poor quality. News Corp needs to make it’s self a by subscription stream available on Roku
Looks like Sling TV at $25 per month to get at least some of those ESPN channels, not sure about Big Ten, though.
