In very few areas of the country , as you no doubt know. Now , reverse racism rules the land .
A friend of mine who grew up in California made a trip to East Texas around 1952 and encountered a drinking fountain in a department store labeled "colored." Thinking that a soft drink like Coca Cola or root beer might flow out of it, he took a drink and was disappointed to find that it was only water. An employee of the store noted that my friend and his folks were "not from around here" and had to explain to them the local custom.
You’re right about segregation, of course. However, my folks knew a Black couple who worked. The woman worked for herself, and the husband worked in manufacturing.
People just worked, whatever the color. And they married.
Federal aid came in and changed all that.
