“You see, I am not brain dead, I’m not the brightest candle in the cave, but not so stupid as to leave a child unattended in a car.”

You can only say this because it has never happened to you, YET!

I see this as a GREAT idea. Also add sensors to the rear seats like the ones the front seats have reminding you to put on your seat belt. Weight activated.

Ding, ding, ding, as if you left your lights on or your car isn’t in park. When this happens to me I always think, “what did I forget to do? Hmmmm, oh yeah, I left the kid in the back seat.

The people buying the car seats would be paying the extra $$. The extra cost in new cars would be negligible.

To: I want the USA back

Spot on. I don’t know why any company would step into that liability briar patch.

I happen to think that a lot of the people who say that this could never happen to them are wrong.

It's undoubtedly happening more because of laws that requires baby carriers to be in the back seat and often facing away from the driver.

Cars make babies go to sleep. Sleeping babies are absolutely silent so there is no sound to remind the driver the baby is there. Then when they get out of the car, even if they glance in the back seat, the baby is not necessarily visible.

So all it takes is a long commute, maybe a change of schedule, and someone with a lot on their mind to make this more likely.

It would be interesting to see the male vs. female statistics on this.

No, it could not happen to me. You see, I am not brain dead

Have you ever intended to complete several errands while you were out and kicked yourself because you forgot one of them?

Do you think Einstein was brain dead? What do you think might have happened if he drove a long distance to work and one day his wife asked him to drop off the baby somewhere?

No, it could not happen to me.

“Pride goes before a fall, and a haughty spirit before destruction.” Something to keep in mind.

I never, not once, forgot my kids and left them in the car. But that’s due, at least in part, because I was firmly convinced that it COULD happen to me. I’m not perfect; I’m subject to the normal human failings, especially when I’m sleep deprived or in an unfamiliar routine or rushed or what-have-you. And I was determined to never be complacent, never think “it could not happen to me” and let my guard down.

And at the end of the day, I thank God that he always kept my kids safe from the failings of my own human-ness.

You mean like the sensors in my car now, where if I have anything on my passenger seat, like groceries, it screams at me because the seatbelt is not latched?

No thanks!

Far more valuable would be a sensor to tell me I left my coffee on my roof.
