Several years back my U16 hockey team played a U16 women’s team. It was a no-checking game.
We got demolished. They knew how to pass better, they stayed in their lanes on defense and they ran plays that in a checking league would never have been successful. My players thought skating 1 on 6 with the puck would result in goals. all it did was result in goals coming back the other way because we were out of position.
At the end of the season, as the girls team was preparing for Nationals, they wanted to play us again. My team’s parents were all wee wee’d up because their little babies got embarrassed by a girls team. So I asked the coach of the other team if I can bring my U14’s instead. She agreed.
They didn’t get a shot on net and at the end of the first period we were already winning 9-0. At that point we didn’t even run the score. Just told the coach if she wanted to work on systems we would be more than happy to oblige.
So what would happen if your U14 boys played your U16 boys in a scrimmage game?
Was the U-14 game no checking as well?
