There was a similar account some years ago of a little boy who fell into a gorilla enclosure. The little boy (blond white boy) was unconscious and it was clear that the gorilla was protecting him. I don’t recall reading that the gorilla was shot.
It would seem reasonable (to me) that a gorilla would see a small human child (of any color) as a baby gorilla, and would respond with appropriate and tender care.
Yes. It was a female gorilla that took the child back up the the area of their entrance to their cages and protected him from the male gorillas who were getting dangerously close for a peek.
As I recall, the zookeepers somehow managed to get the gorillas back into their cages and got the child out.
IT’s a juvenile male though. Don’t know how much mothering instincts they have. But the kid was probably much safer than with a juvenile chimp. They’re just nasty.
IIRC, the gorilla brought the child over to the cage door, and the child was rescued from there.
don’t you know males gorillas crush baby gorillas head with their teeth to rid of any competition. get real these are animals.
The gorilla in the earlier incident wasn’t shot because the keepers succeeded in getting it move where they wanted it to go so that the boy could be rescued. Too bad the same thing didn’t happen with Harambe.
