Google's homepage does not acknowledge that today is Memorial Day. (vanity)
me

No surprise there. Just another reason to hate Google. Bing however has a very respectful picture of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Yellow ribbon? That’s not about Memorial Day. Are we hoping hostages are freed? (Actually I’m told the song was about someone who just got parole.) Memorial Day commemorates the dead who served their country in uniform (primarily those who died while on duty).

Thank you! You sound like me. I won’t use Google’s search engine, browser, gmail, maps, calendars, docs, or images. My only guilt is the occasional visit to YouTube, which I believe is owned by Google as well.

Not a goggle fan but it seems to me the modesty of the acknowledgement makes it more special. Sometimes an understated message carries more power.

“Government is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force! Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”
—George Washington

I love that quote. We are of like minds.

I for one do not use Google as my home page, haven’t for several years. Google is a liberal bastion of nitwits.

I did not see any Memorial Day acknowledgment at all. But I always see their other acknowledgments (Earth Day, etc.).

Then corlorde pointed out in post #13 that a small flag does appear on Google’s main page, but not on the start pages.

Quoteinvestigator is skeptical:

"Several researchers have attempted to trace this saying, and no substantive evidence supporting the ascription to George Washington has yet been located. The earliest linkage to Washington appeared in “The Christian Science Journal” in 1902 which was more than one hundred years after his death."

Thanks. But evidently that flag appears on some Google launch pages, but not on others. See my post #28.

Just popped in to Google website and if you look really really close you’ll see a teeny tiny American flag with a yellow ribbon across it.

Interesting. Never even knew of a “Quoteinvestigator.com” prior to this. I still love Washington, and love that quote. So I won’t lose any sleep over it.

I’ve been disappointed recently to find out that some of the best Yogi Berra sayings were not said by him.

They tend to not list certain conservative sites on searches. It’s what I’ve read about them; they’re ultra-liberal.

Their home page. Their rules.

Every holiday there is a post about Google’s home page.

You guys sound like the Police Captain in “Casablanca”. You are so outraged to find what you already knew what was there.
