Maybe it’s just some of the uncomfortable experiences I had even with family, but for me, I’ve found that you are only truly free if you are paying your own way. Those who pay the checks tend to think they make the rules.

While I am perfectly capable of picking up the tab and changing a flat tire, it is nice to have a guy do those things. Then again, I’m a woman who appreciates a man without trying to emasculate him. I work with too many perfectly coiffed, skinny pant wearing, wouldn’t know how to change a tire “men”

I remember it well
There are two ways to live. Man and woman sharing all costs, both working, children drinking from bottles and raised by day cares. Or a man providing for his wife so she can provide the children with the best care in the world, no chance of abuse, and breastfeeding them etc.
When kids are just hanging out and not seeking a marriage, who cares who pays? Either, one, no big. Be fair. If one has a lot of $ and one doesn’t, just be fair.
But if they are “dating to find a spouse,” it makes a difference how they will bring up their kids. And women may want a man able to support the family. A wealthy woman could support a stay at home dad too, but that is less successful for some reason.
It’s why I love country music - I’m only a year or two into it - because while the songs are also about sex, they still take any love into account. It’s just more than rutting like squirrels. There is still some respect there, as opposed to hip hop, which reveres basic unemotional prostitution or less.

Funny thing is that this works both ways. I taught my daughters to wait for a door to be opened, and if the guy couldn’t figure it out... he wasn’t worth it.
Years later, I found on FR that there were dads teaching their sons that if the girl was to insecure to have a door opened for them... they weren’t worth it.
My daughters are very capable, all of them... but that has nothing to do with acting like and being treated like a lady.
