The mechanisms involved are actually very well understood.

Short version: the center of mass of the solar system is closely aligned with the center of mass of the sun (largely due to the locations of Jupiter and Saturn). Thus, tidal forces in the sun are lower, resulting in less energy output.

This generally leads to a Mauder type minimum and massive cooling on Earth.

Of course, the LSM doesn’t address this because it counters their religion of anthropomorphic global warming.

Russian astrophysicist are all over this. Have been for years. US ones? Not so much. Not much funding in it since NASA is in charge of AGW cultists thanks to Obama.

Not being an Astrophysicist....Nor do I play one on TV....I think that what we are seeing is an unstable perturbation of the Sun's magnetic field.

basically the Sun's magnetic field is declining.
