The only chance the Scouts had to remain true to their code was to stand firm and reject all government efforts to make them kneel. This is a perfect illustration of how big government leftism operates—make every single organization dependent upon government money and permission. In the case of the scouts, govt. refused to let them use public schools, docks, etc. to carry out their activities. The choice was get smaller and make parents volunteer more time and money, or surrender. They fought for several years, but finally surrendered, no matter what Gates says.

Just today on FR I was reading about a hiker who got disoriented on the Appalachian Trail and starved to death in the wilderness with her husband and daughter looking for her. She made every orienteering mistake possible, it seems. The BSA squandered all the valuable landscape and survival lore the many youth should have been learning these past couple of years in favor of a tiny-bore focus on one thing, a thing that children should not be doing, anyway.
You don’t send your 12 year old son off into a tent in the woods with a 23 year old homosexual. It just isn’t done.
This is the end of Boy Scouting as we knew it for a century.

Fortunately for the scouts, your situation is not allowed unless the two are father and son.
The scouts have followed a no scout alone with a leader rule for years now, to avoid the situation that can occur.
Of course this rule does not stop a determined pedophile. He can easily be put in a situation of taking a boy home for example.
I agree that the scouts are one place where young boys are vulnerable and can be victimized, but church, school, and many clubs are also places where this happens. In each case I believe the no adult along with a kid rule is being applied but as I indicated this is not full proof.
But of course since the available pool is so small among that demographic, once-legitimate institutions and their assets must be accessed by any and all means necessary, with the help of Robert Gates.
It's difficult to think of an institution or association that hasn't been rendered corrupted by this garbage.

Over its long history of 116 years, BSA has tried many different approaches to recruiting non-white youth into the program. BSA is still considered a "white" youth program in the U.S. And the white population is decreasing.
Membership in troops has been in a steady decline since 1973.
The 1st homosexual BSA volunteer went to court against the BSA in NJ in 1980.
The SCOTUS ruled 5-4 in BSA vs. Dale in 2000 that the BSA was a private organization whose membership rules could exclude homosexuals.
Volunteer members of the BSA National Council voted in 2013 that open homosexual youths could be members by a 61% vote.
In 2015 the volunteer members of the BSA National Executive Committee revised membership rules to accept open adult homosexuals.

The BSA became corrupted as an institution by further affiliating itself with government, de facto allowing itself to be captured by the queers/Leftists, but I repeat myself.
AT&T CEO Randall Stevenson is the newly selected volunteer BSA National President. This was all in place as early as 2013, and probably before. Stevenson supported membership for open homosexual youths and adults back in 2013.
It will be interesting to see if Gates' prediction of a rebound in Scouting membership occurs with new corporate sponsorship supposedly coming on board. Color me skeptical. I don't think it has helped membership in the GS-USA.
Those are the facts.
The BSA had and still has as a private association Constitutional clearance to do what is right as founded, but they chose this path instead for access to "free stuff" from the government as long as they toe the line on Leftism.

My son quit scouts for that very reason. His words were “how can you be morally straight and be gay? I think it is time for me to quit” it was sad he really was a good scout and well on his way to eagle. We had issues with this district and the handling of a scout masters “inappropriate” behavior. We did not see it getting any better.
It's just horrible to watch in real time how the queer/Left effortlessly steamrolls everything that once stood for good and honorable, co-opts and destroys it, then on to the next.
It's not just things like the BSA, whole continents are going under for Leftism.
