Without our moon there would be no life on earth. It takes the sun, the earth and the moon! Without the moon there would be no tides, but how would that preclude the existence of life?
That is a strictly academic question, as God made it all and set it in motion.

Perhaps I should have stated it more clearly. Perhaps I should have said "life around us" would be different without the Moon. The Moon has had an incalculable effect on life on Earth. Many living things behave more in accordance with the phases of the moon than they do with the daily path of the sun. I do believe that if there is any creation anything like us anywhere in the universe, God gave them a Moon too. I wouldn't just be looking for a Sun "like ours" with a planet "like ours" on this quest for intelligent extraterrestrial life. I would be looking for a Sun, an Earth and a moon!. God didn't put the Moon next to us for no reason.
