I don’t think he lost any credibility. First he never came out directly accusing Cruz of anything - he said ‘some people think...’, things like that. Clever. He created doubt about Cruz’s claims to be a very Christian and honest candidate. It worked.
That’s not “clever”, it’s needlessly destroying another man’s character for your own gain.
It’s disgusting.
