AUBURN, Mass. (AP) -- The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Massachusetts police officer died after an exchange of gunfire Sunday as authorities closed in on him at a small town residence, police said.
The man, identified as 35-year-old Jorge Zambrano, burst out of a closet and opened fire on the officers as they approached him inside an apartment in Oxford, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said at a news conference. Zambrano, who authorities said had a criminal history, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Surprising only in that the story came out of Massachusetts. I didn’t think they knew how to handle problems like that.
‘white hispanic?’
Bothers me that he made it to the hospital before dying
Unfair to say MA cannot handle problems like this. Our police depts are very good and I don’t know if you recall an incident involving pressure cooker bombs, Muslim terrorists, and the Bostin marathon, but they shined then as well. Snarkiness during tragedy is u becoming!
I’m thinking they took the scenic route to the hospital. The springtime views up in Vermont must have been spectacular.
The police immediately contacted emergency services. By press time, the letter had not yet arrived.
Suicide by cop? Should have done it BEFORE murdering the LEO earlier in the day.
Zambrano, then 31, pleaded guilty to several charges, including trafficking in cociane and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, distribution of cocaine, two counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, two counts of resisting arrest, and selling, using or possessing a firearm silence.
He was sentenced to serve 7 years in prison. It is not clear when he was released.
Zambrano was in court just four days before the shooting on charges related to a traffic stop, according to courthouse records posted by the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.
He was charged with driving with a suspended license (subsequent offense), driving an unregistered vehicle and a license plate violation to conceal ID, according to records.
His case was continued to June 9 and he was released from custody.
Zambrano was also arrested in April and charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and driving with suspended license. The case was continued without a finding for 1 year, and he was ordered to pay $100 victim witness fee.
Probably a Trump supp...oh wait.
Around my neck of the cornfield, this alone would have gotten him 30 years.
We have no-nonsense judges here.
Still got the happen ending we wanted, just took a little longer.
Wow assaulted a police officer four days before murdering this officer. This wouldn’t have happened in Texas, because he would be dead or in the hospital clinging to life after having had the s*** beat out of him. It appears that MA coddles criminals. It’s amazing that anyone risks their life serving on the police forces there.

Take off the blinders. I live 15 minutes from Watertown. Two evil, misfit punks shut down an entire community. One was stopped by his idiot brother running him over and the other got away WHILE SURROUNDED BY HUNDREDS OF COPS. The only reason they found idiot number 2 was the homeowner that went out to smoke a butt and found him in his boat. Nobody said it but that operation was embarrassing.
Sounds like common crimes for ILLEGAL ALIENS. Hmm.
Uh, there is no snarkiness in my post and everyone else understood the sarcasm.
It bothers me that ever made it to a hospital...alive...
Works for me..
