The Jefferson Parish coroner's office has identified the woman killed while fleeing a collision in Metairie Monday morning as Madison Comeaux, 24, of Metairie. Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich identified Comeaux's passenger as Jaclyn St. Romain, 38, of Slidell.
The women were pronounced dead after the Ford Mustang Comeaux was driving crashed into a power pole in the 3600 block of South Interstate 10 Service Road. Traffic investigators determined she had been involved in a hit-and-run moments earlier on an I-10 exit ramp and was trying to get away when the wreck occurred, according to Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
"She was flying," said LaToya Gordon, a pedestrian who was out for a walk on the service road when the Mustang drove past. "She was going faster than the cars on the interstate."
The two cars pulled over in a parking lot to exchange information after exiting the interstate, according to Dove, who had reached a nearby gas station. But instead of providing insurance details, the driver of the Mustang hopped back into the vehicle and sped off, Dove said. He watched as the car drove westbound on the service road.
Gordon spotted the vehicle swerving against traffic into the eastbound lane of the service road, maneuvering around other vehicles at high speeds. Afraid the Mustang would hit her on the sidewalk, Gordon dashed into the parking lot of a nearby office building as the car passed by.

Never get in a car with anyone crazier than yourself. Especially if they’re driving.
