The herd did not want to accept the calf -- the poor thing kept approaching people, hoping someone would save him. I think it was cruel of the rangers that instead of keeping him in some zoo or wild animal shelter for a few days or weeks, until it got stronger, they euthanized the poor thing. Read the article.
