Bill Clinton was the beneficiary of the economic windfall realized by the fall of the USSR.

He squandered as much of it as he could.

Most of the economic success Bill receives credit for was due to the windfall and Newt Gingrich’s “Contract With America”.

Bill Clinton benefitted from Reaganomics. Carter dug us so deep in the hole it took over a decade for Reagan’s policies to gather a full head of steam. Clinton arrived precisely at the right time.

The ‘94 midterms kept Clinton from wrecking it with tax hikes and socialized medicine.

I’ve said for a long time that Bill Clinton is the luckiest SOB ever to live. He inherited the left over prosperity of the Reagan boom, got elected because of a squishy moderate Republican (GHW Bush) and a nut case named Perot, and then got a Republican Congress to keep him in line. Absent any of those, he would have never been President, or have been a one termer at best.
