I heard it would open in September.
Why do you consider this an “opportunity”?
Congrats to your son. My daughter did much the same a couple years ago and I used a sublet website, found a good deal right on main road that goes to the WH - I’m stuck right now trying to recall the name, however, the buses run all day up and down so it’s very convenient.
I went for a week long visit and what another poster here had stated is valid, alot of very young white kids crawling all over the city. It is changing, for the better.
Good luck in your search and to your son.
Suburbs in Maryland a good bet. Don’t live in DC — too expensive and not very safe after hours.

My daughter did both, two separate times. Once in the heart of DC and found a very reasonable safe place, and once in MD which worked well too.
It was just last year I was there, I realize there are many unsafe areas but I have to say, I found it to be pretty good overall.
I would be happy to just walk by and see the changes to a favorite haunt of mine...The old Post office with it’s bell tower...I hope there is a video tour at least...for the “little folk” like me!
It was an interesting building...Access from the back, or is it side, was through a few outdoor tables and the rental area for those mobile riders...forgot their name, then down a few steps to a lower level and it was open and almost a full stage front. Mostly food on that level and under the staircase, tables in the open front and center. Small shops all around second floor balcony. Many sold DC merchandise and one was a large FLAG store. The actual Post Office was up there and sold products as well as stamps and minted items of interest to tourists.
The elevator to the bell tower was in the entry hall from Pennsylvania Avenue. I think there were rental business areas there and above...?
I bet the long wide stairway up to the second level will be a HUGE (YUGE?) GORGEOUS change...we’ll see!
