That whole kachunk think doesn't fly with me. That means the gun wasn't ready to fire and you may have given up your surprise advantage. If it comes to guns in my house, I want the first shot, not kachunk.

We used to travel with an 870 in the trunk before the CCW days
When Ina motel on I 10, it leaned against the nightstand whenat 3am the room door kicked open. But,the secondary
chain lock kept it from opening. Just woke up, groggy, poor visibility etc.
I grabbed the 870, loaded it and the would be invaders heard the unmistakable instant kerchunk sound, and a female voice yelled, “Don’t shoot. Don’t shoot. We be leaving. We be leaving.”
And the woman and her two male friends high tailed it down the stairs. Informed management, Left the motel
Neat, tidy, no trauma. No paperwork, no mess, no fuss. No police interrogations, no trip delay.
5 rounds of 00 were ready at the pull of the trigger.
The real world calls for judgment calls. You have to make your own decision at the instant. It was one of the two million Crime preventions yearly that’s not publicized.
By the way, six were in the tube.
As noted in an earlier post, I’ve actually done the “KACHUNK” thing. After a few minutes, I walked outside and saw a puddle of urine on the ground just outside my front door.
Maybe doesn’t work for everyone, but worked for me...
Well said Glory. This ‘rack it and scare them’ bull squeeze is just that. I can’t believe how many think that that move is a good idea. Besides the advantage give away, even the best functioning and well maintained shotguns do jam and it would be the worst luck, and at the worst possible time, to get a feeding malf while racking in a round....just when your life was/might be in the balance.
