The voices of the people gathered at Broad Street United Methodist Church resounded from its wooden peaks as they each raised a hand on Saturday and blessed the Rev. David Meredith and Jim Schlachter on their wedding day.
"Now that Jim and David have extended their 28-year commitment to one another with solemn vows, we announce to one another, the United Methodist Church, the state of Ohio and the world entire that they are married," the crowd said.
With those words, Meredith joined the ranks of United Methodist ministers who have defied the denomination's rules and risk being defrocked by coming out as gay or presiding over same-sex weddings. And it was no coincidence that the ceremony was held just three days before the United Methodist Church kicks off its general Conference in Portland, Oregon, where delegates will debate changing those rules.
Meredith, who pastors at Clifton United Methodist Church in Cincinnati, served as senior pastor at Broad Street from 1997 to 2012.
Ordained in 1983, he considers the church's laws on homosexuality unjust and immoral.

“Let Satan be made happy with this wonderful union. Amen”
Now they can be sodomites with the blessings of a “so-called church.”
Fifty years ago the Hippie movement declared marriage DEAD! Out dated! Old Hat! After all, a marriage license is just a piece of paper and if you love someone you don’t really need that piece of paper!
Today, those old Hippies and their children NOW consider marriage the most important thing two people can engage in, BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE GAY!
“You will know them by their fruits.”
- Matthew 7:15-20, New King James Version
The first time I read "the Rev. David Meredith and Jim Schlachter on their wedding day" as "the Rev. David Meredith and Jill Schlachter on their wedding day".
Off to the re-education camp for me. I gotta get my mind right.
The Methodists need to clean house and soon.No sane person will want to listen to a sermon delivered by a sodomite.
An abomination before God.
Do they put a box of rubber gloves outside the church door on Sunday???
And nuts and flakes.
Doesn’t the Methodist church frown on dancing and drinking??? but somehow this is O.K.???
“I have a ceremony to attend,” quoth one, “at dawn to-morrow, in the Quirinal valley.” “What is the occasion?” “No need to ask: a friend is taking to himself a husband; quite a small affair.” Yes, and if we only live long enough, we shall see these things done openly: people will wish to see them reported among the news of the day.

28 years?!! These mouth breathers had to wait around 28 years? Holy moly what took them so long already? This boggles my mind. These cats chose to belong to a faith that wouldn’t marry them...for 28 years? And supposedly it still isn’t legit per their official faith or something?! This is truly retarded. And I know that’s wrong to say. But come on. At least their genes can’t mingle I guess.

They did it in defiance of church rules.
Southern Baptists frown on dancing, drinking, smoking, pre-marital sex - the same issues that have caused or contributed to the moral decline of our country.
It must be fun to pretend. Will their hundreds of side pieces be attending as well?
So now we see pressures will be brought to bear upon churches, to allow homosexual marriage within their denominations.
The sad fact is, that there are otherwise solid Christian people who believe in homosexuality, and thus think their churches should allow homosexual marriage.
Look for more of this.
I think we could have schisms within major denominations over the issue of homosexual marriage in the years ahead.
We all know about the 2015 Supreme Court decision which mandates same-sex marriage, but, churches have been, until now, virtually untouched by that decision.
So, if "the crowd" said, ""Now that Jim and David have extended their 28-year commitment to one another with solemn vows, we announce to one another, the United Methodist Church, the state of Ohio and the world entire that they are married," then there must have been a script. And, if a script was used, who approved it as a part of a "liturgy"?
And did "the crowd" sign the license, as the state requires, to validate the "couples" consent? And is this legal in Ohion and in accordance with UMC doctrine.
I realize all of this is irrelevant when "the crowd" shouts out in unison from a printed script ... But I just thought I would check.
The weird thing about this whole thing is I can’t think of one major faith group that started marrying their gay members before the state they happened to be in agreed with them about it. I mean, it’s supposedly a civil right or something to these people, right?
That’s pretty messed up, in my opinion. I mean who exactly defines marriage for them?
