Bruce Briley feared the worst when an unconscious woman resembling his wife was placed beside him inside a helicopter that had just rescued him from a plane crash off Molokai’s Kalaupapa peninsula more than two years ago.

If one can believe the Medical Examiner, she died of a heart arrhythmia. The clear implication of that is, if Fuddy's no longer breathing, she's had her heart arrhythmia. One does not have a heart arrhythmia, stop breathing, then only expire an hour later when one is conveniently in proximity to a story-teller.
However, there are so many falsehoods and self-aggrandizing stories in this event that it's just laughable after a couple dozen or so of them, that anyone would still give them credence.
I don't know how they can sleep at night. Oh, yeah, I guess I can imagine.
