There is SOMETHING causing all these neurodegenerative disorders in our children and elderly at unprecedented rates. One child in every preschool class of 25 has some brain disorder like ADHD or autism. This is not counting any of the sex / identity / reproductive brain disorders which may show up (body not matching gender of brain).

I have an image in my head of my dad walking around the yard with a sprayer of roundup in his hand. He died last month after seven years of suffering from Alzheimer’s. I would avoid pesticides as much as possible. They affect nervous systems of all animals.

“There is SOMETHING causing all these neurodegenerative disorders in our children and elderly at unprecedented rates. “

Or, possibly, they were there all along but we can now identify them. So, suddenly the statistics reflecting their presence have shot through the roof. We don’t see what we aren’t looking for.

I have a vision in my head of my dad walking around the yard with a sack of DDT and sprinkling it everywhere. He died of congestive heart failure at 75 after working as a welder and smoking till his last day.

Read “Brain Matters”...there’s some thinking/research that brain diseases are linked to our stomachs...bacteria good & bad

Is it possible we threw away the one truly safe pesticide, (DDT), and the substitutes are causing problems?

Diagnosis is what’s causing it. Used to be kids were just a PITA, some were rambunctious, some were withdrawn, now all those various forms of being “odd” have a diagnosis. The definitions of autism and ADHD have increased DRAMATICALLY. Soon everybody will be something.

And the ADHD etc. is too frequently an excuse for behavior issues. It is easier to classify a nasty kid than to correct his attitude and behavior.

For the record, I do not discount an environmental contributor to Autism or ADHD. I simply don’t know, and nobody has presented compelling evidence, so I will keep an open mind.

On the other hand, I do believe it is extensively over-diagnosed and treated in this day and age.

I do not believe those two statements are incompatible.
