“There’s something WRONG with us...something very, very WROOOONG with us! We’re SOLDIERS!”
You know, a couple of years after seeing this movie, I joined the Army anyway.
My Father related the story of Snuffy Smith...
Not a very good soldier...just a Medal of Honor earner !

Smith was assigned to KP duty the week that he was awarded the Medal of Honor as punishment for arriving late to a briefing. Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson placed the medal around Smith’s neck during a formation.[7]
From my mother’s sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

Andy Rooney once told a story about ball turret gunners...

I also comment (only half-jokingly) that I joined the Army after seeing Stripes, and I did over 28 years. I’ve probably used the “Have that removed” joke, and “that guy owes me money” more than most other humans. Oh, yeah, and “I swallowed a lot of aggression, along with a lot of pizzas.”
After all this reminiscing, I think I’ll go watch it again. Hard to fathom how much better movies like this and Caddyshack were than the total crap being written and produced today.
