I guess a lot of it is having the single-mindedness to concentrate on his golf game to the exclusion of all else. Last week, I saw someone who had a cute little dog (dachshund/Jack Russell mix) that loved to chase a ball. You could throw it incessantly, and it would keep retrieving it and bringing it back. He also had a big ball that he would roll to you in the house so that he could chase that one. He would roll the big ball with the top of his head. Cutest thing you've ever seen. I tried to pet the dog and interact with it, but it would have none of it. All it wanted to do was play with the ball. Single-mindedness in action.

Maybe in 10 years when he turns 50.
His life fell apart when his father died. The way it fell apart was a bit odd and necessitated the rather long article to tell it but that’s basically what happened.

The body starts to break down in all of us in the thirties. Most of us don’t need the extremely high function level of a professional athlete.
With normal levels of function one starts to run into limitations much later — 50’s and 60’s.
Golf is somewhat unique in sports in that the level of repeatable function from a static position is very high. Reflexes to react to a changing environment — think returning a tennis ball, hitting a ball etc — are not as critical.
In tigers case, the loss of mental focus — his fathers death and the dissolution of his marriage — is also a huge factor
I’m worried we may start seeing the break down of Stephen Curry, he’s only 28, but he seems to be awfully fragile.

In a single person sport such as golf, I can not comprehend the amount of pressure Woods was forced to endure day after day, tournament after tournament when he was expected to win each and every time.
I had played golf all my life and was never good at it. I finally gave it up back in 1998 when I realized that I could never control my emotions on the course......
There was another pro golfer (I forget his name) back in the early 90's who was #1 in the world several years in a row who lost the mental confidence and totally self destructed, failing to even qualify in tournament after tournament after his final win........

I don’t think tiger will ever play the senior tour.
He made it up. Southern California in the 1980s was extremely well integrated and racially peaceful.
It happened to Ian Baker-Finch. Won the British Open and then totally lost his game. David Duval to a large extent too. Golf seems to require such a fine mental edge.
I don’t believe Tiger has won a major since the PGA added steroids to their drug screening procedures.
