I think I know what caused the brief outage of Earth's magnetic field (btw, now I know why my magnetic compass stopped working for a couple of hours today):

The earth’s magnetic field is very weak, it can only move a little needle in a compass. On average it is about 0.4 G, hell I have a small magnet that is about 100 G. Now CERN is capable of creating an enormous magnetic field. However, there is nothing to worry about, mainly because of the weakness of the earth’s field. If you had a pipe wrench in your hands and they turned on CERN, it would fly out of your hand. CERN's magnetic field is orders of magnitude greater than the earth’s field.

Since I’m not into the clickbait, what’s CERN?

BTW, a tin-foil hat is not enough shielding.

A double layer would be, IF you could get it! They only sell that aluminum stuff now! Six layers minimum!

Remembering that the universe burst forth from a speck of matter condensed into the size of the period at the end of this sentence.

Because, GOD.

And just when it looked like this was finally the year the Cubs would win the World Series.

I feel your pain, gator. I was sure the Zags would make a run at the Final Four in 2017, until I found out that Domantas Sabonis declared for the NBA draft and signed with an agent.

The young man played his way into the lottery with his performance in the NCAA tournament.

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter – the fundamental particles. The particles are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

Many activities at CERN currently involve operating the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the experiments for it. The LHC represents a large-scale, worldwide scientific cooperation project.

The World Wide Web began as a CERN project named ENQUIRE, initiated by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 and Robert Cailliau in 1990. Berners-Lee and Cailliau were jointly honoured by the Association for Computing Machinery in 1995 for their contributions to the development of the World Wide Web.

CERN is the acronym for the French name of the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter – the fundamental particles. The particles are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

The instruments used at CERN are purpose-built particle accelerators and detectors. Accelerators boost beams of particles to high energies before the beams are made to collide with each other or with stationary targets. Detectors observe and record the results of these collisions.

Founded in 1954, the CERN laboratory sits astride the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva. It was one of Europe’s first joint ventures and now has 21 member states.
