Ahhh...the soundtrack of our Freeper lives.
Was all of 17 when this came out. Always loved it.
I’ve always thought his articulation and vocal style was a close second to Sinatras, a truly great talent. Love these old live recordings that weren’t just lip-synchs. Yet they could have released this version and it would have been the #1 R&B hit record.
And whaddya know, that led me to this live version of my favorite of his songs, “It’s Just a Matter of Time”, his first #1 R&B hit from 1959 that rose to #3 on the Billboard pop chart as well.
Very nice.
Tony Joe White wrote this and sings it pretty good too.
Great guitar licks on that one played (I believe) by Cornell Dupree.
Feels like it’s raining all over this man’s world.
An actual artist and not an aspiring rapper.
I love this song. My mother and I back in the 70s had to go from Phx to Vero Beach, Florida and had no real money so we took a Greyhound. 3 days, went through the South. Dark rainy nights on the road. This song always brings it back to me. Still remember the lights on the road and the dark woods and old clapboard homes.
I find Georgia on my mind by Ray Charles somewhat continues the mood.
