That was the alternative non-Trump vote, partly because of the kerfuffle over "New York Values" (we knew what he meant), and partly because the 24/7 smear machine has been grinding away at Cruz support since Iowa. "Lyin'" is neither Mr. Cruz' first name, nor an accurate character assessment, just a Trumpist twitterism. Whining about "stealing" delegates who were up for grabs, glossing over CNN's announcement and blaming Carson's performance in Iowa (and Trump's lack of first place) on Cruz, The whole National Enquirer smear about infidelity (where's the follow-up, or was that just good for one set of primaries?), attacking Cruz over a PAC ad, then attacking his wife, distorting Cruz positions on issues, blaming the actions of 99 other Senators on Cruz for not autonomously passing or repealing what the others would not vote to pass or repeal, blaming Cruz for GOP rules over allocation of delegates after not pursuing the delegates in the first place, even claiming Cruz tried to ban sex toys (sheesh!).
Every smear campaign artfully timed to bring support to a low before an election day or a caucus or a convention.
Artful media manipulation, supported by sources which would have been shredded here in years past, to get a no-record Clinton donor with a past history of buying influence through political donations and support for the "Assault Weapons Ban" nominated for the Republican POTUS ticket (Bizarro World).

In the early primaries when there were lots of choices Kasich was getting 5 or 10 percent of the vote, so part of his vote could be voters who actually like him, but most of it is probably from voters who don’t like either Trump or Cruz, but had no one else to vote for but Kasich.
