It has to do with set expectations. Cruz is smooth and orderly in his delivery, and he had recently rattled off all of the attacks on the candidates by the moderators flawlessly and with some verve.
Besides that, it echoed a superficially Perry's "u-oh" moment, that pretty much cost him a shot at the nomination.
The next day, it was in headlines as a "highlight" of the debate. Forgotten a week later, so will "7-Eleven".
