In 2010, at the age of 51, appliance sales manager Eric OGrey was in a bad place. He weighed 320 pounds and as a consequence was racking up more than $1,000 a month for medications to deal with his high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. Doctors told him that if he didnt turn his life around and lose significant weight, his life expectancy was most likely no more than five years.
Then, at the advice of a doctor, he adopted a dog from a shelter. He decided on a somewhat obese middle-aged dog that he saw as not unlike himself. This dog needed to be walked at least a half-hour a day, something OGray did without fail. OGrey next adopted a plant-based diet and he stuck with it. Within a year, he lost 140 pounds. His dog Peety lost 25 pounds. In addition, OGrey was off his meds for good.
Peety had in fact rescued him from an old pattern of trying to reform habits only to fall back into his unhealthful ways. He looked at me like I was the best person on the planet, OGrey told NPR, and I wanted to become the person he thought I was.
According to the Humane Society, nearly 2.4 million healthy cats and dogs are put down in U.S. shelters each year; about one every 13 seconds.
Can something as seemingly simple as the introduction of an adopted pet into someones life bring on renewed health? Animal-assisted therapy has long been used to significantly reduce pain, anxiety, depression and fatigue in people with a range of health problems. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, having a pet has proven to help decrease blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and feelings of loneliness.

Such a nice man.
Chuck Norris threw a grenade and killed 50 people, then it exploded.
All three of mine were rescues. One was 2 weeks old, 8 oz, Doc gave him 50/50 chance.
The other was a year old, and my little one is a runt and half the size of a regular cat.
LOL
Good for him. I hope he has a long life and many dogs!
And yep, my house smells like cat urine.
Chuck Norris’ dog is trained to pick up his own poop because Chuck Norris will not take crap from anyone.
Lemme guess. You're gonna be here all week...and I should try the veal.
That’s great!
Chuck Norris was once charged with three attempted murders in Boulder County, but the Judge quickly dropped the charges because Chuck Norris does not “attempt” murder.
Good luck & God's blessings to all humans & furry friends in their search for peace, friendship & love!
My dog is a floor dog. She’s four now and when she was a couple years younger, she was an exercise dog - got me out the door, ran circles around me while I walked two or three miles, came home and wanted to play tug and make sure I got the upper body workout too. And if I didn’t wear her out I got no peace.
She’s still perfectly happy to go for a walk, even a long walk, but if we’re not in the mood, a nap suits her just fine.
Bless you. I had to have my boy PTS 3 days ago because of a brain tumor. I miss not having a dog already.
LOL!

My sincere condolences, it never gets easier saying goodbye :-(
