From the text. Re Senator McCarthy

..... when he stated in a speech there where over 200 known communists operating in the U.S. Department of State.

Black Listed By History.
The Untold History Of Senator Joseph McCarthy And His Fight Against America's Enemies.
M.Stanton Evans. (Crown Forum 2007).

Sigh, even yet the "mistake" is being perpetuated. Senator Tydings, a enemy of Senator McCarthy, posed with a phonograph. He said he had a recording of McCarthy saying 205 communists in the State Department. The Denver Post had published at that time a headline. This stating McCarthy said 57 persons were known communist sympathisers. It was at Wheeling WV, that McCarthy spoke.

Tydings was put under oath and conceded that he had no such recording. McCarthy may have even understated the numbers. One can only wonder why it is that squeaky clean upright legislators, would suddenly stoop so low.

Could this be applied to present day critics of Donald Trump?

The Rats expressed deep outrage that Senator McCarthy would question the patriotism of those in the State Department and US military.

Fast forward 50 years and we have big army brass protective of the Fort Hood shooter saying that it would be a BIGGER tragedy to impact the diversity of the US military than the massacre of over a dozen men, women, and children on a stateside US military base by a KNOWN traitor in the War on Terror.
