I know. But it is a common mistake people make. On the other hand, what I know about Pediatric Neurology could be contained in a very small notebook ... with lots of space left.

Technology is allowing archaeologists to find chambers that in all likelihood would have never been discovered. IMO we have only uncovered the tip of the iceberg with respect to archaeology in Egypt.

With arrogant egomaniac Hawass out of the way maybe some real exploration of the Great Pyramid and the rest of the Jeezah Plateau will finally come to pass.

:’) I just read the LiveScience original version of the story, and there’s a claim by Zowie that [snip] the geology of the Valley of the Kings can lead radar to produce false positives showing a tomb [/snip] which is, uh, wth?!?

I definitely watched it live. The show came back from an ad break, the whole thing was set up, and the music started. Kicked all our asses (college dorm crowd, half of them high, not me though).

I would take the word of geology professionals over anything that grifter claimed.

Hey, have you ever seen any info on the water table of the Jeezah Plateau——in the Al-Jizah Governate-— in the area around the pyramids and Sphinx? I have never found any. Always wondered how deep the water is and how conducive to natural caves the sub surface topography is.

Since that little creek is flowing past a short distance away there ought to be a bit of moisture. ;<}

Yup. I’ve got to dig out the book, but somewhere I’ve read a ref to a late 19th c or early 20th c description of an apparent top step of a tomb that isn’t on the KV-numbered list, hasn’t been excavated. Of course, chances are that it was plundered in antiquity, or never finished/used in the first place, more than 99% are one or the other.

:’) Hawass pooh-poohed the GPR that pinpointed KV63 and the as-yet unexcavated KV64 (both pit tombs), saying that radar doesn’t make the discovery, blah blah blah.

There's a water table that rises and falls with the Nile level. That symbolic 'tomb of Osiris' discovered and excavated about ten years ago has to be keep pumped out, for example. And one of the supposed Old Kingdom temples usually has water standing.

OTOH, the unfinished chamber in the bedrock under the Great Pyramid doesn’t appear to ever get wet.

There’s a robber’s hole that was dug into the length of the Sphinx, possibly ancient, possibly medieval muzzie. One branch works its way up into the head, the other one dead-ends somewhere near or under its ‘base’. No water.

Campbell’s Tomb is right behind the Sphinx — pit tomb, deep, no water.

There’s some imaginary tunnels and such in these diagrams:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2806721/posts

The 4th dynasty chewed a bunch of catacombs down into the plateau, and at one time those were used for tombs for fammily members and public officials. There’s a nice wall painting/bas relief of one of Khufu’s granddaughters, and one of the mummies that was left partially burned by ancient graverobbers. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were water down in the deepest spots.

Well that was an interesting plan drawing of the Sphinx but who drew it? Is it just imaginary?

The find of the unassembled boat can certainly leave one to think that there are other goodies awaiting discovery at the site.

You know, the bases for the pyramids needed to be flat so I would think so I had the idea of building a dyke around the planned area, fill it with water and then have my guys hack down everything that sticks out. Keep lowering the water till you get it down level.

Has anyone ever scoured the region for casing stones that were not broken up for other buildings? I have thought the same about Stonehenge; maybe there are some in the Salisbury Plain area intact. Could be some casing stones under the sand that did not make it into Cairo.

There must have been a lot of “industrial accidents” whilst removing those big heavy objects down those steep sloping sides unless they just prised them loose up high and let them slide and tumble to the ground.
