Trump vs. Schwarzenegger
none | Today | Me

Posted on 03/02/2016 7:03:33 PM PST by BADROTOFINGER

Looking at the Trumpsters of today, I am reminded of the rabid Schwarzenegger supporters of yesteryear. Not caring about conservatism, not giving a damn about principles, not caring one bit about anything but winning. Perhaps a few of a Schwarzeneggerites would like to comment about how all of that worked out.

I’d bet on a lot of silence.

Excellent point. We have the worst leadership in American history. Ryan has the opportunity to be a hawk that scatters a bunch of pigeons like Pelosi. However, he chooses not to. Sad.

Difference is, Trump actually has a detailed conservative platform: Strict border control and expel people here illegally. He says it again and again and again.

Are you saying that’s not a “conservative” policy?

Not when you are talking about touch and go amnesty where all the non felons come back, after all they are all criminals by being here illegally in the first place.

I can’t help but laugh everytime I hear someone call Trump a conservative. He’s been ‘sorta, kinda’ a conservative for 5 minutes. Oh please. It’s been amazing for me to watch so many so-called conservatives throw away their principles just to support a ‘strongman’.

I am reminded of the rabid Schwarzenegger supporters of yesteryear.

Your recollection is faulty.

Schwarzentaxxer had the full backing of the GOPe, unlike Trump. Let's see... Who else has the full backing of the GOPe in this presidential race and who is viewed by the GOPe as the outsider?

If you want a more valid comparison, his opponent, Tom McClintock, the true conservative, was shunned by the GOPe despite the fact that McClintock had a proven track record and was intimately familiar with the problems facing 'Cawleefownia' and detailed his solutions.

Schwarzentaxxer, OTOH, said he would present his solutions after he was elected. Many FReepers said McClintock was not electable due to his wall-eye and backed Schwarzentaxxer, instead.

Cruz threw away his principles by standing with Rube-o just to stand against Trump, so I wouldn’t brag about your candidate having principles. And I was one of the last holdouts for Cruz, too.

It was a bit of a night and day shift in 2006.
First all fire and special elections and budget battles (against a Dem majority) then suddenly he hires a staff of Democrats.

McClintock would have lost in a landslide.
Schwarzenegger was by far the more popular candidate. He pulled Democrats like McClintock couldnt, and Democrats were necessary to win any statewide office in CA.
That the Dems got Schwarzenegger in the end is mostly just a consequence of having a Dem majority. Blame the people, they deserve it.

“I am reminded of the rabid Schwarzenegger supporters of yesteryear”

Meaning that you are obviously not a Californian and don’t know that he was not the choice of grassroots conservatives. Tom McClintock was. Arnold was a sock puppet pushed on us by the GOPe. The very GOPe who are adamantly opposed to Trump. Hugh Hewitt being a shining example.

Arnold was the Golden Boy of the New Majority, a GOPe rich donor committee that first formed to push Arnold for Governor. They put their money and influence behind Arnold and the rest is history.

I voted for Schwarzenegger and felt good about it because:

A. He seemed to love America and was grateful for the opportunities it provided.

B. He was smart enough and had the discipline to take advantage of those opportunities, first by rising to the top of the bodybuilding world then unexpectedly parlaying that into the top movie box office star of his time, a feat no one could have anticipated. The guy had a mind for business, and he had a great product to promote.

His Waterloo was going up against the Democrat state unions with several ballet measures that lost. After that, the fire left him and he decided he’d rather be loved and feted as a celebrity than remain a principled Republican slogging it out with the opposition.

Can the same happen to Trump? Sure. But don’t think it can’t happen to any of the other candidates. I’ll vote either Cruz or Trump.

But I’m one more lie away from letting it all burn.

Schwarzenegger was made fun of by democrats because he did nothing to help conservatives. He just wanted to be loved by democrats. The dems slapped a kick me sign on his back and laughed and laughed and to this day Schwarzenegger still does not know what he did wrong to alienate everyone.

“Your recollection is faulty. Schwarzentaxxer had the full backing of the GOPe, unlike Trump”

I’m glad somebody else here remembers how it went down.

First, the GOPe wasn’t behind the effort to recall Gray Davis. But when we succeeded they quickly moved to gain control of who would replace him.

We all wanted the excellent, if quiet, Tom McClintock.

But the busy little elitists in the GOPe wanted someone that they could control and Arnold was their boy. Hugh Hewitt told us every day on RINO radio that we just had to elect Arnold or it would doom the Party. Well he got his way.
