Trump’s wall will be a yuuuuuuuuuge waste of resources.

Yes we need to build a smart fence and secure the border with increased border patrol, high tech fencing, drones etc.

But the REAL way to stop illegal immigration is to shut off the magnets, the free stuff, and visa overstays. You take away welfare, free food, free education, free healthcare, and jobs from illegals, this crap would stop almost overnight. And of course we need to put an end to sanctuary cities. Do all of these things and most illegal immigration would stop and most illegals would self deport. I live in CA. I know.

The idea of building this great wall and making Mexico pay for it is sheer lunacy. Illegal immigration is not Mexico’s fault. Mexico is a poor and impoverished country and it is only natural that many want to come here. Illegal immigration is a problem created by US policy makers and their failure to secure the border, shutoff the magnets, enforce e-verify, and visa overstays.

The Berlin wall was to keep people from escaping a corrupt government system.

A border wall with Mexico would restrict criminal gang activity and illegal immigration. It is not a wall built by one country to imprison its native population, but a wall to keep those that don't want to follow the immigration rules out. It is also a wall to slow down the drug and smuggling gangs that now own much of our southern states.

Just as good fences make good neighbors, border walls seem to be coming into vogue everywhere from Europe to the Middle East as a way of preventing illegal immigrant flows and terrorists.

A wall would not be needed if we had an adequately funded Border Patrol that wasn't micromanaged by a Political Party looking for illegal voters.

First it will protect, and then if/when we have a few years of negative interest rates, bankrupt banks, a crashing dollar, wealth confiscation, gun confiscation, punitive tax rates - it will be to keep people in.

A thoughtful observation. We have three of those things. Yellen has essentially told us to expect negative interest rates. A term which is Orwellian gooblygook from a fascist "progressive".

The dollar will crash eventually. Gun confiscation has already begun piecemeal. Veterans, mentally ill (conservatives?), guns that don't meet ever changing regulations. Also, when a city outlaws guns, that is simply preemptive confiscation.

This is like an armed gang forming in your yard, and you get the shotgun down, and your nervous wife frets that someday that shotgun might be used in a suicide.

Show me ONE Politician/Celebrity/MediaMouth who isn’t protected by SOME kind of wall, be it human or otherwise?
Their tears of fear and despair are feeding the machine.

It will imprison those who insist upon taking a view based upon their further insistence that they can predict the future; when nobody can.

Elitist interests Trump really represents...

As opposed to the elitist interests that anyone else represents?

But let's assume that the author is correct, that this is a wall intended to keep us in rather than stem the invasion.

Where would you flee to that isn't more bat-dropping insane? What is the shining light of freedom and opportunity that has not been corrupted by the liberal agenda? The people who scaled the Berlin Wall did so to reach freedom. Where is left to find that outside the US?

“It doesn’t matter. He’s not going to build any walls.”

Based on what? The only way he will be stopped is if your gope buddies in congress conspire to stop him legislatively. But if he fails, it sure won’t be because he hasn’t tried damned hard to do it.

Seriously.

Anyone that wants to leave is free to move. No one is going to move mountains to keep anyone here.

Europe is demonstrating exactly why one is needed.

Although I have problems with a few of Trump's positions on other issues, his promise to build a wall is not one of them. In fact, the wall should be electrified, surrounded by an alligator-filled moat.

Both. Protect US, imprison the Illegals on the other side.

First off illegal immigration IS Mexico’s fault as they do not maintain their own border, and deliberately so.

Next, there was supposed to be a wall or fence built long ago.

Third, yes actual deportation, cutting off benefits, and enforcing laws will chase most out of here and are essential.

But a wall once divided Berlin, Germany.

I don't know about you,Mr Keyes, but I *visited* that wall in the early '80s.And the central thing I couldn't help but notice was that the East German machine guns were pointed into *East German* territory...almost as if they were trying to keep their *own* people *in*.

The wall that Mr Trump (and others) support would do pretty much the same thing the fences and locks on *your* property do...keep unwelcome people *out*.

Apples and oranges,Mr Keyes.

To allay Alan’s fears, I heartily support a very big gate that allows all the illegals who want to, to exit this place and return to their own damn countries.

No one ever envisioned “imprisoning” them or anyone else here.

Unlike a prison, the wall would have a well-defined door, through which tourists may pass, and those who come to America to seek citizenship, may come through in orderly fashion and only after scrutiny of their intentions.

The door through the wall is meant to swing BOTH ways, not to simply keep Mexicans and others out. Right now, should a US citizen choose to enter Mexico, is is understood that the RIGHT path to entry would be followed.

Try taking a shotgun with a slightly too-short barrel into Mexico, see where that lands you. US Marine reservist Sgt. Andrew Paul Tahmooressi wound up being jailed for seven months, on a weapons charge, and suffered considerable abuse while in prison.

Alan Alan— calm down . You will still be able to go into Mexico if you want to risk it. I wouldn’t go into that cess pool of a country for anything but after the BIG wall is up— you can still go!!
