In one of the most exhaustive and damning reports on diversity in Hollywood, a new study finds that the films and television produced by major media companies are "whitewashed," and that an "epidemic of invisibility" runs top to bottom through the industry for women, minorities and LGBT people.
A study to be released Monday by the Media, Diversity and Social Change Initiative at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism offers one of the most wide-ranging examinations of the film and television industries, including a pointed "inclusivity index" of 10 major media companies -- from Disney to Netflix -- that gives a failing grade to every movie studio and most TV makers.
Coming just days before an Academy Awards where a second straight year of all-white acting nominees has enflamed an industry-wide crisis, the report offers a new barrage of sobering statistics that further evidence a deep discrepancy between Hollywood and the American population it entertains, in gender, race and ethnicity. ...

I just watched Ted 2 with my brother, some funny parts, not a great movie. In it, Ted and Mark Wahlberg’s character are talking to a woman who introduces herself as Samantha Jackson, and has no idea who Samuel L. Jackson is:
Samantha: I’m Samantha Jackson. You must be Ted.
Ted: Uh, yeah, Samantha Jackson, what’s your middle name?
Samantha: Leslie
Ted: Oh my god, you’re Sam L. Jackson!
John: That’s great, I mean, just like Sam L. Jackson!
Samantha: Who is that?
Ted: You ever seen any movie ever? He’s the black guy.
LOL, Firesign Theater...that brings back some memories!
Oh yeah, Hollywierd is definitely know, for the dominance of straight white conservative Republican Christian males. How stupid IS the target audience for this “study”?? [eyeroll]

What could be better?
Oh, I’m fine with it. Liberal actors and movie producers have been preening before the public as if they are naturally morally superior. Always portraying themselves as sacrificial do-gooders trying to “edumacate” the unwashed masses with reverential films as if we, the viewing public, have to be restrained from virulent racism. Similar to actors who sneer at gun owners while starring in movies brandishing guns and playing the part of heroes. The hypocrisy is deep and wide in the town filled with land sharks who act and produce movies -let HOllyweird twist in the wind as people begin to say....hey....where’s the diversity?
The “Dirty Harry” movies showed San Fran realistically; if they were remade today I could imagine how it would be distorted. They had their share of minority good guys - but plenty of bad guys as well.
