Progressive vs liberal: which ideology is hurting us more...
Progressive Review ^

Posted on 02/10/2016 3:53:49 PM PST by DonJohnson20

Progressive oppose the wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq; liberals like them as long as a Democratic president is running them.

Progressives oppose the war on drugs, America’s most masochistic and deadly battle since Vietnam. Liberals treat it with utter indifference.

Progressives believe what people do is more important than how politely they talk about it.

Progressives don't think you should have to go to grad school to have an important role in government.

Progressives respect state and local government; liberals often act like they're a Republican plot. Progressives understand the importance of the devolution of power to the lowest practical level.

Progressives worry about locked doors, liberals about glass ceilings, which is why liberals thought Obama's election would create a post-racial society.Too many liberals are infatuated with symbolism such as electing a black president, while ignoring the real problems most minorities face in everything from the job market to dealing with the law.

Even progressives who don't own guns respect the right of others who do. Besides, why piss them off the way liberals have done, when they could be allies on a host of other issues, beginning with civil liberties?

But then, progressives still defend civil liberties. Liberals seem to have forgotten about them and ignore Obama's abuse of them.

Progressives pursue issues; liberals support candidates.

Progressives don't give up an issue just because the candidate they voted for is now in office and opposes it.

Liberals love Clinton and Obama while despising the Bushes who preceded them. They don’t seem to notice that our government continued to move to the right under both Democrats and that neither repealed any significant policies of their GOP predecessors

This is a captivating analysis as the author perceives his version of 'progressivism' to be at odds with modern mainstream 'liberalism' through means that many of my fellow libertarian Freepers might relate to. After all, the assault on 2A and civil liberties (eg: PC agenda) would not classify as 'liberal' in earlier times but knowing how butt-backwards our society has become, look what classifies as 'liberal'... is bound to anger people on the right AND the left. For the record, I am a centrist libertarian (maybe right-of-center) with certain socially conservative views... to ME, at least, morality should be left up to the individual where there is no grave immediate danger to others around him/her... we don't need an EASILY corruptible government to determine morality for the masses... This article doesn't even strike me as liberal or conservative... more like part populist, libertarian, anti-corporatism, without the urge for overt regulation by our federal "superiors"...

I didn’t realize that there was a significant difference.

What is the difference between a progressive, liberal, communist or socialist?

Actually they are leftists, not liberals. There haven’t been any real liberals in the Democrat party since the 70s.

The author is clueless as to the meaning of left and right.

The lowest common denominator of left and right is that leftists desire power to be concentrated into as few hands as possible and rightists desire power to be distributed into the hands of as many people as possible.

There really is no such thing as a liberal today.

“Even progressives who don’t own guns respect the right of others who do.”

Huh? I’ve never met or spoken with a progressive that respects gun rights. They are even worse on them than liberals. Liberals might let you keep a bolt action hunting rifle or double barreled shotgun at least. Progressives want to confiscate all your guns and have the cops shoot you if you don’t comply.

"What is the difference between a progressive, liberal, communist or socialist?".

'Progressive' and 'Communist' are the same, the name selection varies with whether you believe you will prosper under this system (progressive), or not (communist).

'Liberal' means 'not conservative', mainly on single issues like abortion, homelessness, aids prevention, possibly LGBT rights. They don't usually believe in communist principles, but they like being able to do as they please (including 'helping' others whether they like it or not), without repercussions.

'Socialists' are pragmatists who believe there's no way you can sell Communism to this country yet, but they think they can slip through some communist type, central government controls through regulations, punitive taxation, and restrictions on environment and commerce.

At least, that's my interpretation.

Yes, this person seems like some mix of a progressive with a libertarian, not a real progressive.

Liberals = useful idiots for the communists
Socialists = communists smart enough not to call themselves “communist”
Progressives = communists smart enough not to call themselves “communist”
Communists = communists too stupid not to call themselves “communist”

That’s my observation.

Boogieman: I think you’ve got it!

Read communist/Marxist propaganda and other theoretical writings and they always call themselves and their allies “progressives”.

While the word “progressive” may have different shades of grey meanings among western world politicos, to a hardcore communist/Marxist it is “them” and their allies/dupes.

Also meant to deceive the low-education students and voters.

Progressives is the biggest misnomer out there. REGRESSIVES is a much more accurate term

That's Sam Smith, the anti-Clinton Democrat who's stuff was posted here in the 1990s.

What he means by "liberal" is more or less Bill Clinton, and what he means by "progressive" is something like Ralph Nader -- somebody who is further left but who isn't really bent on winning the political game.

It's possible to have a lot of admirable integrity if one isn't in it to win it, but that doesn't necessarily mean that one's ideas or policy choices would be better if one actually got into power.

Progressives are leftists. Some who name themselves libertarians are leftists as well.

Liberals just came up with a new name in an attempt to unload the nasty baggage of liberalism. Young people who name themselves progressives have been manipulated and don’t know much about the constitution nor our Republic. They are so easily manipulated by liberals it not funny.

Some leftists call themselves libertarian to sound cool. It sounds better than naming oneself honestly - a liberal socialist/fascist or Marxist. Bill Maher is a good example of that.
