When Santa Clara business owners heard the Super Bowl was headed to the Bay Area, they were understandably excited: With tens of thousands of people swarming Leviâs Stadium for the big game, surely big profits would follow, they assumed.
As it turns out, however, sales in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl has been lackluster at some locations that were counting on a customer uptick.
Nga Huynh, the owner of Butter and Zeus, says that the foot traffic has slowed at her location.
'Businesses is a little bit down because of all the road closures,' she said. 'We arenât seeing our usual Sunday crowd.'
Like many restaurateurs, she's keeping her eatery open late so that people leaving Super Bowl parties can come and dine.
When Santa Clara business owners heard the Super Bowl was headed to the Bay Area, they were understandably excited: With tens of thousands of people swarming Leviâs Stadium for the big game, surely big profits would follow, they assumed. Marianne Favro reports.
Despite Huynh's disappointing sales, however, the Super Bowl has met the expectations of other business owners, particularly those within a two block radius of the stadium.
'This super bowl thing is amazing,' said a cook at Dona Maria Mexican Food, where tacos were in high demand but short supply.
'Weâre probably up 100 percent,' said Guillermo Prado, owner of Dona Mariaâs. 'Normally, business on Sunday is slow.'
The Sunday Farmer’s Market in Palo Alto didn’t suffer. It was mobbed and all the good pulled pork sandwiches were gone by 11:30. The line was 25 long for the Roto Rolli rotisserie chicken.
Well, California St. in Palo Alto isn’t really that close to Santa Clara.
DFW found after its Super Bowl there was ZERO economic benefit after measuring hotel revenues, sales taxes, etc. A few restaurants right in the immediate area of the stadium showed an uptick, but otherwise, nothing.
Probably good for the AirBNB founders
Profits are still legal in San Francisco?
I guess 13 miles isn’t next door, is it? Still, I could see the Blackhawk patrolling 101.
The SuperBowl Half-time show was a tribute to Black Power, however, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Black Panthers, who succeeded about as well as the Carolina Panthers. Beyonce’s fake cartridge belt may have contained a few actual cartridges, minus their primers. The large X that the 50 black women in paramilitary uniforms and black berets formed, of course, honored Malcolm X, the racist white-hater. Was the conventional US media silent on this? Then go read the British press!
What did Coldplay say about black power?
