Russian Snipers both men and women did great work. Their mission was to kill when least expected. They did kill as our snipers also killed. Snipers are the dark fear in a soldiers hearts.

However, I must take exception to a sentence in the article that said “semiautomatic” rifles. I am not aware of any semiautomatic rifle used by the Russian forces as a sniper weapon. If someone has information that I am not aware of please post such info.

Yes, SVT-40 rifles were scoped and used as snipers. See the 2nd pic up from the bottom.

Pretty rare to find one.

The Tokarev SVT-40 semi-automatic rifle was modified during WWII for use as a sniper rifle using the 4X PU scope. Some famous Soviet Snipers are said to have preferred it over the Mosin Nagant because of it's “rapid second hit” capability.

We have three Mosin Nagant and love to shoot them. They do better with cartridges we have made up ourselves rather than the cheap lacquered steel cased 1980s surplus ammo currently available. But I have to admit we can't put them together as cheaply as the surplus ammo so we use the surplus mostly.
