Here is a picture of one of the small displays my wife has set up honoring Kyra. This was taken on Memorial Day a few years ago at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue, WA. My wife mostly sets up histories of American women. But Kyra after all she went through chose to become an American. It is not that much, an old Mosin Nagant rifle, some pictures, some of her books, the types of medals and decorations that she earned, etc. but it does represent a little of what she went through. It was quite popular. We were told by her friends that she appreciated it.

I believe the picture in your post is a picture of a living history re-enactor portraying Roza Georgiyevna Shanina. She does bear a remarkable resemblance and is doing a good job.

Very nice! Thanks so much for sharing. Interested to look her up now and know more. Tell your wife thanks, too.

Very interesting. Fun to learn.

Funny, I had forgotten the Finnish sniper’s name, and looked him up earlier to show my son.

“semiautomatic rifle used by the Russian forces as a sniper weapon’

Yes, SVT-40 rifles were scoped and used as snipers. See the 2nd pic up from the bottom.

Pretty rare to find one.

"Roza Shanina is an exceptionally beautiful woman. Only Pajamaboy and other San Francisco liberals could resist her"

Are you kidding? Overly bulbous nose, jaw too masculine, nose-to-mouth and mouth-to-bottom-of-chin distance ratios waaaay off, her face is overall too flat and her bone structure is overall too robust.

Not that looks matter for much, but from a purely artistic viewpoint...

If Laz would not hit that, I will hit Laz. I will hit Laz with a two by four until he comes to his senses. She is seriously hot and the Nagant is all the make up she needs.

given the quality of that particular photo, I'm calling it bogus........

It meets the Dan Rather standard, it's a close match to other pictures of her, and she's hot, which is what I want to see. Who cares if the color and resolution are modern? The photo is fake but accurate.

Then what are you gonna do?

She has 3 books listed on Kindle but not an autobiography. They’re all novels. Can you please tell me the title of her autobiography? Maybe I can get it on Amazon.

My favorite is her autobiographical work from 1959.

I should warn you that she was trained as a nurse, not a sniper. But she did well in firearms training and had some experience described in the book shooting at Germans. Here is the link to used editions of the out of print book on Amazon. They start at $5.94 + $4.00 shipping.

I am not aware of any semiautomatic rifle used by the Russian forces as a sniper weapon. If someone has information that I am not aware of please post such info.

The Tokarev SVT-40 semi-automatic rifle was modified during WWII for use as a sniper rifle using the 4X PU scope. Some famous Soviet Snipers are said to have preferred it over the Mosin Nagant because of it's “rapid second hit” capability.

We have three Mosin Nagant and love to shoot them. They do better with cartridges we have made up ourselves rather than the cheap lacquered steel cased 1980s surplus ammo currently available. But I have to admit we can't put them together as cheaply as the surplus ammo so we use the surplus mostly.
