Great article, one seems to forget the absolute evil of the Roman Empire. I was glad to see Christianity was not left out of the equation, it prevailed in the end.

The Romans used their absolute and resolute cruelty to maintain power. When the slaves revolted (Spartacus) and were defeated and recaptured, 7,000 were reportedly crucified along the road to Rome.
