Mary Fiumara, the woman who shouted “Anthony! Anthony!” in an iconic Prince pasta commercial, died on February 2 at 88 years old. Fiumara’s son confirmed Fiumara’s passing to The Boston Globe .

Anthony Martignetti—Fiumara’s son in the commercial—was 12 years old when he starred in the “Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Day” commercial alongside Fiumara, according to the Globe . In the 1969 advertisement, Martignetti is seen running home for a pasta dinner after Fiumara shouts his name from a Powers Court apartment window. According to Martignetti, even before the commercial gave Fiumara TV recognition, Fiumara was a “legend” of the neighborhood.

Iconic commercial of the late 60’s early 70’s back when advertising was expected to catch your attention.

There was once a Prince pasta factory in Lowell MA. When prince went bankrupt the factory was bought by another company (Boston Macaroni IIRC). The facility was after then referred to as the Pasta Plant Formerly Known as Prince.

They yelled out the window in Bay Ridge until the ‘80s :)

Gradma Rose used to make meatballs from scratch, grating hard italian bread for the crumbs, using eggs, cheeses, incredible.

My Aunt Mary got arrested at 80 for bookmaking!

She was yelling at the cops “you can’t make a living in this country!!” lol

Here today, gone tomato. Her family was whole, but now they’re cannelloni without their favorite granny. Sending olive our prayers. How sad she ran out of thyme. But I’m sure cheese gone to a better resting place.

Must have only been local. Never saw it here in Texas. 88 is goodish age.

I have no idea what that is but I do remember the old Alka Seltzer commercial. “That’s a spicy meatball!”.

I was 19 in 1969 and I don't remember seeing that commercial either here in the West.

They played it in the Chicago area market. I suspect that y’all (2nd person plural familiar form) eat a lot more rice than spaghetti in Texas, and Prince, knowing this, spent their advertising dollars where it did the most good.

My German English Scotch-Irish American mother bought their spaghetti, along with dried porcini mushrooms, a packet of “authentic Italian” McCormick spaghetti seasoning, cans of tomatoes, and a can of Contadina tomato paste. (I think there was an onion and some garlic somewhere.)
